Held in a huge big top tent erected in downtown SF, Cavalia opened for a series of performances. Judging by the half hour press preview I witnessed, it's going to be a very successful US tour. The horses were definitely the stars. They were magical as was the scenery. The backdrops consisted of projections on a 200 foot wide screen, changing so effectively from spring to winter, including snowflakes, that you might experience a chill just watching. The (two-legged) star of the show is Frederic Pignon (below), billed as a "horse whisperer,'' but he says the horses actually whisper to him. His horses, unfettered by saddle, bridle or rope, followed him around like puppies. |
